Greg Johnson
Hello! My name is Greg Johnson. Twenty-nine years ago in a leap of faith, my family loaded up the station wagon and moved to God’s country. Dad left a big city white-collar job in an air-conditioned office to become a Christmas tree, pick-your-own strawberry, burley tobacco, and molasses cane farmer. I was fifteen years old, starting a new adventure, and had a perpetual grin on my face. Mom thought we were both insane!
A lot has changed for both Ashe County and me since then! I have been married for twenty years to Ashe County native Jenny Bower, a kindergarten teacher at Mountain View Elementary School. We were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Laramie and Kelsey. Laramie, 19, is a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Kelsey, 15, is a sophomore at Ashe County High School. We live in Jefferson and attend Jefferson United Methodist Church.
When I moved to Ashe County in 1976 it was virtually undiscovered. There were many more dirt roads, three high schools, and one fast food restaurant. Now our new high school and elementary schools are state-of-the-art and are constantly at the top with state test scores. We are attracting larger stores and restaurants and there is much to see and do, from art galleries to canoeing the New!
I have loved Ashe County since before we moved here, and I love her more today. Come up to the high country, give me a call, and I’ll show you why I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else!
